Cirque du Soleil presented its newest Big Top production VOLTA adjacent to the NYCB Live home of the Nassau Veterans’ Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, NY on Long Island beginning May 17, 2018. VOLTA is written and directed by Bastien Alexandre and with Jean Guibert as the director of creation.
It is a MUST-SEE. Weaving a story of the soul journey and learning about one's self, performers told the story using jaw dropping stunts that leave you at the edge of your seat. We were obsessed with the tower skit where the acrobats throw themselves from a tower and perform an array of stunts that had us yelling for more! I was chatting with a young lady that tours with the group and it turns out that many of the performers are trained Olympians and it's no wonder. They perform with such gusto and athleticism- it's super inspiring.
The melding of live music from International electronic composer and musical director Anthony Gonzalez, from M83 and the storytelling of these performers Cirque du Soleil leaves you in awe and yearning to explore those creative sides you have been ignoring for so long. It was perfect for my daughter who is 5 and my son who is 11 and of course me. My daughter asked me to stop yelling a few times so clearly I was enjoying myself! I have definitely decided it's time to try those Ariel silks!
